How to Set up IMAP or POP email accounts

Tip   The appearance of Androids can vary so use these steps as a guide or consult the manufacturer's help for your particular device.

NOTE   If you're setting up an IMAP or POP account, only your email will sync to your device. Any calendar and contacts associated with that account remains stored on your local computer.

  1. From the Applications menu, select Email. This application may be named Mail on some versions of Android.

  2. Type your full email address, for example tony@contoso.com, and your password, and then select Manual.

  3. Depending on the type of account you're setting up, select IMAP or POP (suggestion- IMAP).

  4. On the Incoming server settings page, check that your email address is correct and add the following:

    • Domain\Username Type your full email address in this box, for example, tony@contoso.com. If Domain and Username are separate text boxes in your version of Android, leave the Domain box empty, and type your full email address in the Username box.

    • Password Use the password that you use to access your account.

    • IMAP Server or POP3 Server Use the address of your server. For example, the server name for Office 365 for business is outlook.office365.com.

    • Security type Select your security type. For example, the incoming security type for Office 365 for business is SSL.

    • Port number Add the port number. For example, the port number for Office 365 for business is 993. Tap Next.

    • If you receive a message about additional security features, select OK to continue.

    On the Outgoing server settings page, add the following:

    • SMTP server Type your SMTP server name. For example, the outgoing server for Office 365 for business is smtp.office365.com.

    • Security type Select your security type. For example, the outgoing security type for Office 365 for business is TLS.

    • Port number Add your port number. For example, the outgoing port number for Office 365 for business is 587. Tap Next.

  5. In Account name type a name for this account and the name you want displayed when you send e-mail to others.

  6. Tap Done.

    TIP    You may need to wait ten-to-fifteen minutes after you set up your account before you can send or receive email.
